Buying Property In Spain A Real Estate Agents View
You've read many articles, you've searched to the depths of Google so today we thought we would cover buying property in spain a real estate agents view point.
Firstly, let me tell you how I became a real estate agent in Spain (the short-version)
Like many people (back in 2007) I was in a position to look for an investment in Spain (after all, at this time, the Spanish property market was booming and seeing year on year growth). My brother (also a real estate agent in the U.K) had won a sales prize to vist Spain for a golf weekend. Well, as the trip was organised through a real estate agent in Spain, we thought it would be a good idea to explore the options..... Long-story short, after a fun weekend of sun and visiting stunning new properties, we decided to invest in our new apartment for sale in Guardamar del Segura, a typically Spanish town just 25 minutes south of Alicante.
Roll the clock forward a few years and (having met my future wife in Guardamar) I moved to Spain and (as most non Spanish-speaking people) found an option to work in a real estate agents Guardamar. I had some experience; my brother had his own real estate business (which I helped out in) and I had more than 20 years business experience, dealing with people, customer service etc. I like to think I made the transition well and really enjoyed the 'different' workiing day, being 'out of the office', viewing stunning new homes with sea views and meeting different people every day who all share the same dream, buying a property in Spain.
For most people; the search for a property in Spain starts via the internet. This gives buyers an option to explore the areas using search engines to read-up about the area, to see photos and to be 'on the ground' in Google Maps. Then, searching for a property on the real estate agents website.
On most occassions, this is when first contact is made... either via an website inquiry, an email or a phone call (each client is different due to their busy working lives). Whether the first contact is by phone, by email or even a 'walk-in' to the shop / office, our first impressions are paramount. We know that buying a property (especially a 2nd property in another country) can be daunting. Not knowing the language, not knowing the area and not knowing the laws can make the process seem more difficult than it should.
That's where we come in. We will talk you through the whole process, advise you on the legal requirements, help you apply for the NIE number (required) and open a bank account. We can refer you to lawyers and even currency brokers. Every step is covered and we can assit you all the way. This is what makes our job so special and rewarding. We see the clients from Day 1 from their initial search, viewings, making the offer and all through the legalities until we attend the Notary with you and collect the keys to your new home in Spain. We don't stop there and offer a great after-sales service helping your transition to the area as smooth as possible.
I have just realised that this BLOG is already in excess of 540 words but hope this (short) Buying Property In Spain a Real Estate Agents View gives you some idea of 'our side' of the business and how we are so lucky to help our clients through the whole process.
